Overview

Visit Central Trinidad and experience a variety of landscapes.  Alongside the bustling commercial centre of Chaguanas, this city holds some surprising natural oases such as the Caroni Swamp, the Caroni Arena reservoir and the Caroni plains which gently rise to Monsterrat Hills.  Central Trinidad is also known for its culinary delights.  You will be exposed to some of these during this tour.

Our tour will set out from its meeting point and drive by the bustling city of Chaguanas and alongside the rolling Caroni plains before we make our way to first stop in Chase Village where you will experience, the Roti Making demonstration at the home of a local.

Our third stop will be the Seedas Sadhu, Temple in the Sea.  This temple built in 1995 was superseded by an earlier version built on the seashore in 1947 and demolished because it was on private company land.  Next we will visit the Sri Dattatreya Yoga Centre. The centre which is an exquisite architectural masterpiece is dedicated to Dattatreya (the Hindu Trinity). Comprised of several intricate carvings and symbolic figurines, the temple’s entrance is guarded by two life-sized elephant statues.  The temple’s architecture and vibrant explosion of colours displayed in the paintings will captivate your imagination.

At our fourth stop, our lunch stop, we visit the home of a local where you will dine on a sumptuous, local, Indian cuisine.  Roti, a popular food in the Caribbean, consists of a curry stew folded tightly within a dhalpuri or paratha roti. The stew generally contains potatoes and a meat such as chicken, duck, goat, beef, conch or shrimp.

Our final stop will be the Caroni Bird Sanctuary which is located in the Caroni Swamp.  The Caroni Swamp is the second largest mangrove wetland in Trinidad and Tobago.  The swamp is designated as a wildlife sanctuary.  It is the home of our national Bird, the Scarlet Ibis and also the home of over 100 avian species.
