Overview
This tour allows you to explore what many know as the eighth wonder of the world, the Pitch Lake, sample Debe street food and visit the Caroni Bird Sanctuary where you will traverse one of Caroni river’s many tributaries on the way to experiencing the sheer beauty and wonder of the Scarlet Ibis, our national bird, coming home to roost.
Our tour will set out from its meeting point and head in a southerly direction to our first stop, Debe Street Food Stretch. There you will tantalise your taste buds with local, authentic, West Indian cuisine. Our second stop will be the internationally acclaimed Pitch Lake, the most magnificent of only 3 natural lakes in the world. After exploring the Pitch Lake, we set out in a northerly direction to a village called Chase Village where you will have a curried lunch at the home of a local.
Our third stop will be in Chase Village, where you will dine on one of T & T’s most popular foods, the Roti (Paratha). It consists of a curry stew served traditionally with paratha roti. The stew generally contains curried potatoes and other vegetables and a meat such as chicken, duck, goat, beef, conch or shrimp.
Our fourth and final stop will be the Caroni Bird Sanctuary which is located in the Caroni Swamp. The Caroni Swamp is the second largest mangrove wetland in Trinidad and Tobago. The swamp is designated as a wildlife sanctuary. It is the home of our national Bird, the Scarlet Ibis and also the home of over 100 avian species.
